Madewell Coupons & Promo Codes
Madewell regularly offers promo codes, but they are rarely for a simple sitewide discount on full-price items. Codes are most powerful during sale events, when an extra percentage (commonly 20-40%) can be taken off already-reduced prices. Outside of these sales, discounts are often category-specific (e.g., on sweaters or dresses). The best consistent, year-round benefits, like free shipping and rewards, are tied to their Insider loyalty program, not checkout codes.

Madewell discounts that work every day

How to actually save at Madewell
Known for its high-quality denim and timeless wardrobe staples, Madewell has built a loyal following. While the brand does offer promo codes during key sales, the most reliable savings come from joining its free loyalty program, Madewell Insider, and taking advantage of its unique jean trade-in discount.
- Join Madewell Insider before you buy anything. The free 'Insider' tier immediately grants you free standard shipping and handling on all orders, a key saving.
- Wait to buy sale items until Madewell adds an extra promo code. The best deals are always 'sale on sale', where you can apply a code for an additional percentage off already-marked-down styles.
- Never buy new jeans without using the Denim Trade-In program. A flat $20 off is often a better deal than a percentage-based promo code, especially on a single, high-value item.
- Shop during 'The Big One' sale events. These happen a few times a year and represent Madewell's deepest inventory clear-out, with the best 'sale on sale' offers.
- Create an account and add items to your cart or wishlist. You may be targeted with a reminder email that sometimes includes a specific discount to encourage you to complete your purchase.
When Madewell actually discounts
Timing beats codes at most retailers. This is Madewell’s real markdown pattern.
| When | What happens |
|---|---|
| The Big One Sale (typically March/April and September/October) | One of Madewell's largest sale events, featuring significant markdowns plus an additional percentage off sale styles with a code. |
| Black Friday / Cyber Monday (late November) | Features some of the year's best discounts, often with a blanket percentage off your entire purchase or a very deep discount on sale items. |
| End-of-Season Sales (January and July/August) | Major markdowns on winter and summer apparel, respectively. These are great times to find deals, especially when combined with an extra-off promo code. |
Madewell coupon questions
- How does the Madewell Insider program work?
- It's a free, tiered loyalty program. The base 'Insider' tier gets you free shipping and earns 1 point per dollar. Spending $500 gets you 'Star' status, and $1000 gets you 'Icon' status, unlocking perks like triple point days, birthday gifts, and early access. Points are converted into dollar-off rewards.
- Can you stack coupons at Madewell?
- Generally, no. Madewell allows only one promo code per order. However, the most valuable strategy is to apply that single code to items that are already on sale, effectively creating a 'double discount'.
- What is the Madewell jean trade-in program?
- You can bring an old pair of jeans from any brand into a Madewell store. They will recycle the denim and give you a $20 discount to use on a new, full-price pair of Madewell jeans that same day.
- Does Madewell have a student discount?
- Yes, Madewell offers a 15% discount to both students and teachers. You can verify your status online to get a code or simply show your valid ID in a physical store. It typically can't be combined with other offers.
- How do I get free shipping at Madewell?
- The easiest way is to sign up for the free Madewell Insider loyalty program. All members, even at the entry-level tier, receive free standard shipping on every order with no minimum spend.
- What is Madewell's return policy?
- Madewell accepts returns of unworn, unwashed, and undamaged items within 30 days of purchase for a full refund. Items marked 'Final Sale' cannot be returned or exchanged. A fee may be deducted for using a prepaid return label by mail.

How we check Madewell codes
Most of the money at Madewell sits in loyalty mechanics rather than in a checkout code, so this page is built around verifying those against madewell.com’s own published terms and treats codes as the smaller half of the story. Any code we do list came from a page we can point at, and carries the date we last saw it.
When a shopper reports a code worked or failed at checkout, that vote is recorded and moves the code up or down this page. We publish the failures next to the successes, because a page showing only wins is not telling you the truth about coupon codes, most of which do not work. Codes that keep failing come down rather than stay up collecting clicks. Need something more current? Run a live search for Madewell.
